Tragedy Strikes Lakewood Church: 1Dead, 2 Injured in Houston Shooting
Houston, Texas 02.11.24 – Houston is grappling with the aftermath of a devastating shooting incident at Lakewood Church. Chief Troy Finner of the Houston Police Department disclosed that the tragic event unfolded just before 2 p.m. when a woman, aged between 30 to 35, entered the church grounds from the parking lot.
Armed with a long rifle and accompanied by a young child, estimated to be around four to five years old, the woman initiated gunfire within the premises. Prompt intervention from law enforcement officers, including an off-duty TABC agent and an HPD officer, led to the demise of the shooter. However, the child sustained critical injuries and was swiftly transported to Texas Children’s Hospital for treatment. Additionally, a 57-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg but is currently in stable condition.
In the aftermath of the confrontation, concerns were raised about potential explosives and hazardous materials, leading to a thorough search of the woman’s vehicle and belongings. Thankfully, no explosives were found, and HAZMAT crews determined that the substance spread on the ground posed no risk to the community.
Authorities have assured the public that this was an isolated incident, and they are diligently combing through the building to ensure there are no further risks. As investigations continue, the community is urged to avoid the area as law enforcement remains on-site.
