A tragic shooting occurred early Thursday morning at Houston Farmers Market, located at 2520 Airline Drive, resulting in the death of 36-year-old Damon Price. Surveillance footage has been released, showing two Hispanic male suspects, believed to be teenagers, wanted in connection with the incident. Both suspects were last seen wearing dark-colored hoodies.
Houston police received a shooting call around 4:25 a.m. Officers arrived at the scene to find Price suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him deceased on the spot.
Price was working at the market, helping to check in delivery trucks, when the two suspects broke into the business. As they attempted to steal a golf cart near the exit, Price intervened, leading to a physical altercation. One suspect pulled out a firearm and shot Price multiple times before both fled the scene.
The suspects were caught on camera going through merchandise and eyeing the golf cart. Investigators found at least four shell casings at the scene.
The Houston Police Department has since provided an update on the case. A 14-year-old boy, identified as the shooter, has been arrested and referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on a capital murder charge. The investigation remains ongoing.
Price’s family and the Houston Farmers Market community are devastated by the loss. His father, Leo Price Senior, expressed his grief, stating, “This happened while he was doing his job. Really, ain’t nothing that can be said about a man going to work.”
Cheterria Alexander, Price’s ex-wife, and mother of his 14-year-old and 4-year-old daughters, learned of his death on her way to a chemotherapy appointment. She pleaded for justice, saying, “Put the guns down. The man was just working, trying to provide for his kids and his family. We’re taking a loss. They should take a loss, too. I just ask that justice be served. Whoever did this to him, just turn yourself in. He had babies. What if it was you?”
The Houston Farmers Market released a statement expressing their sorrow: “We are devastated by the tragic event that occurred this morning and claimed the life of an innocent man and beloved market employee. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victim’s families, friends, and our entire Houston Farmers Market community as we navigate this senseless tragedy. Houston Police Department is actively investigating the situation, and we are supporting them in every way we can — including working closely with Crime Stoppers to bring these criminals to justice.”
