CONROE, Texas – A Fourth of July celebration turned tragic on Lake Conroe as a woman drowned after falling off a boat. The incident, which occurred around 9 p.m. near the Scott’s Ridge Boat Ramp, has prompted an investigation led by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
According to reports, the woman fell from a pontoon boat, sparking a frantic search by those on board. Among the rescuers were Shane Everett Anniboli, 44, and Kyle Dean MacMeekin, 29, who dived into the dark waters to save her. Despite their efforts, they were unable to locate the woman. Rescue and recovery divers found her body at approximately 11:30 p.m.
In the aftermath, both Anniboli and MacMeekin were arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated. They are currently being held without bail at the Montgomery County Jail. Initial confusion led to reports that Anniboli was the woman’s husband; however, this was later corrected to identify another man on the boat as her spouse.
Authorities utilized side-scan sonar during the search, eventually discovering another woman, who had also jumped in to help, safe on a dock after swimming nearly three-quarters of a mile.
The names of the drowning victim and the individuals involved have not yet been released, pending further investigation and notification of family members. Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack has ordered an inquest, and the woman’s body has been sent for an autopsy.
The response to the incident included Montgomery County marine police, the Montgomery County Hospital District, and several local fire departments. Constable Philip Cash emphasized the critical importance of using life safety equipment while boating on Lake Conroe to prevent such tragedies.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this devastating loss,” said Constable Cash. “We urge everyone to prioritize safety and use life jackets and other safety gear while enjoying the lake.”
