Cooling Centers Open for Residents Affected by Hurricane Beryl’s Power Outages

In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, many residents in the Houston region are facing the challenge of coping with extreme heat and humidity without power. To provide relief, officials have announced the opening of multiple cooling centers across the area. These centers will offer a respite from the sweltering temperatures and essential services to those in need.

City of Houston Cooling Center

The City of Houston has opened a cooling center to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following location:

  • Southwest Multi-Service Center: 6400 High Star Drive, Houston

Precinct 4 Cooling Centers

Three cooling centers in the Houston area will be operational on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., as shared by Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones:

  • Bayland Community Center: 6400 Bissonnet Street, Houston
  • Radack Community Center: 18650 Clay Road, Houston
  • Weekley Community Center: 8440 Greenhouse Road, Cypress

Precinct 3 Cooling Stations

Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey announced that several cooling stations in Harris County will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. These stations will provide food and water distribution, charging stations, and Wi-Fi where power is available:

  • Crosby Community Center: 409 Hare Road, Crosby
  • Big Stone Lodge: 709 Riley Fuzzel Road, Spring
  • Trini Mendenhall Community Center: 1414 Wirt Road, Houston
  • Juergen’s Hall Community Center: 26026 Hempstead Road, Cypress

Lakewood Church Cooling and Distribution Center

Lakewood Church has also opened its doors as a cooling and water distribution center. Starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, they are providing relief at the following location:

  • Lakewood Church: 3700 Southwest Fwy, Houston

In addition to cooling services, the church plans to distribute supplies, emergency response kits, and assist with cleanup efforts across the city.

Montgomery County Shelters

As recovery efforts begin in Montgomery County, several shelters have been opened for residents affected by the widespread power outages caused by Tropical Storm Beryl. Judge Mark Keough announced the following shelter locations:

  • Lone Star Community Center: 2500 Lone Star Parkway, Montgomery
  • West County Community Development Center: 31355 Friendship Drive, Magnolia
  • East Montgomery County Community Development Center: 16401 1st Street, Splendora
  • The Salvation Army: 304 Avenue E., Conroe
  • Underover Fellowship: 600 S. Frazier Street, Conroe

Additional shelters are expected to open as needed and will be announced accordingly.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these resources to stay safe and cool during this challenging time.
