How to Apply for Disaster SNAP Benefits to Replace Lost Food

Texas HHS | Acting Governor Patrick, HHSC Announce SNAP, WIC Replacement Benefits for Counties Impacted by Hurricane Beryl

AUSTIN – Acting Governor Dan Patrick and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) have announced federal approval for SNAP recipients to apply for replacement benefits for food lost or destroyed due to Hurricane Beryl. WIC participants can also replace food and formula benefits lost during the hurricane.

What You Need to Know:

SNAP Benefits Replacement:

  1. Eligibility: SNAP recipients in 121 counties impacted by Hurricane Beryl can apply for replacement benefits.
  2. Deadline: Applications must be submitted by August 8, 2024.
  3. How to Apply:
  • Dial 2-1-1 and select Option 8 starting July 11.
  • Download and complete Form H1855 (Affidavit for Nonreceipt or Destroyed SNAP Benefits).
  • Mail the form to Texas Health and Human Services Commission, P.O. Box 149027, Austin, TX 78714-9027, or fax it to 877-447-2839.

For SNAP recipients outside the listed counties:

  • Apply in person within 10 days of discovering the food loss at your local benefits office.

WIC Benefits Replacement:

  1. Eligibility: WIC participants can replace food and formula benefits lost due to Hurricane Beryl.
  2. Deadline: Benefits can be replaced through July 31, 2024.
  3. How to Apply:
  • Visit TexasWIC.org or call 800-942-3678 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday) and select Option 3.
  • Go to the WIC office in person to replace benefits.
  • For breastfeeding assistance, call the 24/7 lactation support hotline at 855-550-6667.

Mental Health Support:

General Assistance:

Any Texan in need can apply for benefits, including SNAP and Medicaid, at YourTexasBenefits.com or use the Your Texas Benefits mobile app to manage their benefits. For local resources such as food or shelter, dial 2-1-1 and select Option 1.
