GALVESTON, Texas — What started as a joyful day at the beach turned difficult for a Texas family when 9-year-old Jayce lost his prosthetic leg in the ocean. Jayce, who has special needs, was playing in the waves when his prosthetic leg came off and was carried away by the water.
The Swindall family had taken a spontaneous trip to Galveston. Jayce was so eager to get into the water that he ran straight in before his dad could remove the prosthetic leg. Unfortunately, it was lost in the surf at 61st Street, near Beachfront Palms.
Despite searching the beach and ocean for hours, and even posting in local Galveston Facebook they couldn’t find the leg. Now, the family is facing the challenge of replacing the $7,000 prosthetic just before Jayce starts school again. Meanwhile, a kind person has donated a wheelchair to help Jayce get around.
Jayce’s family is asking for the community’s help. If anyone finds the prosthetic leg, please turn it in to the Galveston Island Beach Patrol. They have the family’s information and will make sure it gets back to them.
To help cover the cost of a new prosthetic leg, the family has started a GoFundMe campaign. Any amount helps and will go a long way in ensuring Jayce can continue to move around and enjoy his activities. Click here to donate.
The Swindall family is very grateful for the support they’ve received so far and hopes to find the prosthetic leg soon or raise enough funds for a replacement.
Thank you for your support and kindness!
