If you’ve been in Houston for a while, chances are you’ve eaten at Cleburne Cafeteria at least once. This family-owned spot has been serving up fresh, homemade comfort food since 1941, making it one of the city’s longest-running restaurants.
Started on Cleburne Street, the cafeteria moved to its current Bissonnet location in 1969 when Nick and Pat Mickelis took over. Even after facing two fires, the Mickelis family rebuilt and kept the tradition going. Today, George Mickelis continues to run the restaurant, keeping the same commitment to fresh, scratch-made meals, no freezers, no microwaves, just good food.

From chicken fried steak and turkey with dressing to fresh veggies and homemade pies, Cleburne is a go-to for a hearty meal. If you’ve been, you know the drill, grab a tray, pick your favorites, and enjoy a classic Houston experience.
