Houston, TX — A deadly shooting near Texas Southern University (TSU) on Wednesday afternoon has left one man dead and prompted temporary lockdowns at nearby schools and a shelter-in-place on campus. Police are actively searching for two suspects who remain at large.
The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Ennis and Rosewood streets, just steps from TSU’s campus. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found a man fatally shot inside a vehicle. His identity has not yet been released.
According to investigators, two men were seen fleeing the scene and were later picked up by a vehicle. Both suspects remain at large. Descriptions released by police are as follows:
• Suspect 1: Thin Black male with dreadlocks, wearing a white shirt, dark-colored shorts, and carrying a white bag.
• Suspect 2: Heavy-set Black male, about 5’5” tall, also with dreadlocks, wearing a light-colored shirt and a black backpack.
TSU issued a shelter-in-place shortly after the shooting, and Yates High School, Lockhart Elementary, and Blackshear Elementary were temporarily placed in secure mode. All lockdowns have since been lifted.
Homicide detectives are leading the investigation and are reviewing area surveillance footage. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
