HOUSTON – January 21, 2024
Houston residents are advised to prepare for an approaching storm system bringing rising temperatures and heavy rain. Showers are expected after midnight, intensifying into a steady soaking rain on Monday morning.
The most challenging weather is forecasted for Southeast Texas between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, with areas west of the city experiencing heavy rain before sunrise. The Houston metro area will be affected by mid-morning, potentially causing localized street flooding.
Despite the heavy rain, the flood threat for Southeast Texas this week is relatively low, with critical days to monitor being Monday and Wednesday. Rainfall totals are projected between 4 to 7 inches, with the possibility of locally higher amounts.
Residents are urged to check vehicle essentials and clear debris from gutters and drains. The storm is expected to persist through Tuesday and Wednesday, gradually winding down towards the end of the week, with temperatures remaining above normal. Stay safe, Houston!
