Kingwood Standoff: Home Engulfed in Flames After Suspect Barricades and Fires Shots

A tense standoff in Kingwood ended in tragedy Friday after a wanted suspect barricaded himself inside a home, exchanged gunfire with deputies, and set the residence on fire. The incident began around 11 a.m. when members of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and the Violent Criminals Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrived at the 2000 block of Shadow Rock Drive, near Eastex Freeway and Northpark, to serve a warrant for 46-year-old Christian Andrew Peck. Court records show Peck was wanted in connection with a felony assault of a family member by impeding breathing stemming from a 2022 Harris County case, as well as a possible protective order violation in Montgomery County.

According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Peck refused to come out when deputies attempted to serve the warrant. He allegedly fired shots from inside the house, striking some first responders’ equipment but causing no injuries. Additional gunfire was later reported, and SWAT deployed chemical munitions into the home, though they were ineffective.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Peck allegedly set the house on fire. Houston Fire Department crews worked from protected positions to bring the blaze under control while neighbors were evacuated and CenterPoint Energy was called to manage a nearby gas line. Despite the escalating danger, no bystanders, deputies, or firefighters were injured, and surrounding homes were not damaged.

Just before 5 p.m., firefighters entered the charred remains of the residence and discovered a deceased person and a rifle among the rubble. Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the deceased, though it is believed to be Peck. Sheriff Gonzalez noted that no law enforcement personnel were inside the residence at the time the fire was set.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is leading the ongoing investigation. Sheriff Gonzalez confirmed the discovery in a statement on X, writing, “@HoustonFire members are entering and assessing the rubble. A deceased person and a rifle have been located.” The violent and destructive end to the standoff left neighbors shaken but relieved that no further injuries occurred.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office continues to lead the investigation. The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
