As a hard freeze is expected to impact the Houston metropolitan area this weekend, city and county officials have announced the opening of multiple warming centers to provide shelter and safety for residents during dangerously low temperatures. The National Weather Service predicts a significant arctic cold front beginning Saturday, with overnight lows well below freezing and potential hazardous conditions through early next week.
24/7 Overnight Warming Centers
The City of Houston, in coordination with Harris County, will operate several overnight warming centers open 24 hours a day to ensure residents have access to heat and shelter throughout the coldest hours. These centers are set to open Saturday evening and remain operational through midday Thursday, contingent on weather conditions.

All centers will be staffed with public safety and health personnel and provide heat, water, and basic necessities. Residents may bring personal items and medications as needed.
Daytime Warming Centers
In addition to overnight facilities, daytime warming centers will operate during set hours to provide temporary relief from the cold. Most locations are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., depending on the facility.

Lakewood Church (3700 Southwest Freeway) has also announced that it will open its facilities to residents seeking shelter and warmth during the freeze.
