Off-Duty Harris County Deputy Accidentally Shot by 3-Year-Old Nephew in Spring, TX

Spring, TX — An off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy was accidentally shot in the hand by his 3-year-old nephew at his home in the 20200 block of Woodsboro Court earlier today. Authorities say the deputy was asleep when the firearm discharged. The toddler, who was unharmed, somehow accessed the weapon, and only one shot was fired. The deputy’s mother was also present in the home at the time of the incident.

EMS responded immediately and transported the deputy to a nearby hospital. Officials report that his injuries are non-life-threatening and that he is in stable condition.

Constable Precinct 4 led the investigation and had investigators on scene documenting the incident. It remains unclear whether the child lives at the residence or was visiting at the time of the shooting.
