5-Year-Old Found in Pool After Reported Missing in Cloverleaf Area

A young child has died following a tragic drowning incident in east Harris County on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 12:20 p.m. to the 900 block of Nancy Rose after receiving multiple calls for service. One caller reported seeing a small child walking alone in the neighborhood, while a second call came in from a distressed mother reporting her 5-year-old child missing.

Investigators say the child had been playing in the front yard when the mother briefly went inside to assist another child with an online school assignment. When she returned, the child was no longer outside.

Deputies quickly began searching the area and requested aerial assistance. A drone unit was launched at approximately 1:15 p.m. and, within minutes, located the child in a backyard swimming pool on nearby Waxahachie Street, roughly two blocks from the child’s home.

A responding deputy immediately entered the pool and pulled the child out unresponsive. Deputies began CPR and were later assisted by additional units, including Precinct 3 deputies, until emergency medical services arrived and continued life-saving efforts.

Despite those attempts, the child was pronounced deceased at the scene at approximately 1:41 p.m.

Authorities say there appear to be two possible access points into the backyard where the pool is located, including a fence that may have been climbed and another unsecured area. Investigators are working to determine exactly how the child entered the property.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene and continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials described the situation as devastating for both the family and responding deputies, some of whom required peer support following the call.

Authorities are also reminding the public to remain vigilant around water, especially as warmer months approach, emphasizing the importance of supervision and secure barriers to prevent similar tragedies.

The investigation remains ongoing.
