Fatal US-290 Crash Leaves 35-Year-Old Driver Dead Near Fairbanks North Houston Road

Northwest Houston – A fatal crash on the inbound US-290 Northwest Freeway service road left a 35-year-old man dead and three other people with minor injuries Wednesday night, according to the Houston Police Department.

The crash happened at approximately 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, at 14300 Northwest Freeway, with the crash occurring along the inbound service road between Gessner Road and Fairbanks North Houston Road. According to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division investigators Sgt. M. Barrow and Officer C. Brothers, the man was driving a black Cadillac SRX at a high rate of speed when he lost control and struck a black Mazda SUV. The Cadillac then struck the curb and guardrail before rolling over multiple times.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the Cadillac driver deceased. He was the only person inside the Cadillac at the time of the crash. The Mazda SUV was also involved in the collision. The driver and two passengers inside the Mazda suffered minor injuries, according to HPD.

During the initial investigation, HPD officials said speed appeared to be a significant factor in the crash. Investigators are continuing to work to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. The identity of the deceased 35-year-old man has not been released. HPD said his identity is pending notification of family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The crash remains under investigation by the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division. The incident is listed under case number 1022069-26.
