HOUSTON, TEXAS — Houston Police Department homicide investigators are working to determine what led to a deadly shooting Tuesday afternoon in the 900 block of Omar Street.
According to Detective Chettry with the Houston Police Department Homicide Division, Central patrol officers were dispatched at approximately 12 p.m. following a person-down call.
When officers arrived, they located a white male, approximately 50–60 years of age, who had sustained a gunshot wound. Initial dispatch information indicated the victim was found inside the residence, on the floor and bleeding.
Investigators said the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still being pieced together.
Police confirmed that one adult male is currently detained in connection with the investigation. Detectives are interviewing the individual as they work to determine what happened.
Detective Chettry confirmed the person detained is an adult and not a teenager. No further identifying information has been released.
At this stage, investigators said the incident does appear to be a homicide, but it remains too early to determine whether the case will ultimately be classified as a criminal homicide.
Police have not released whether the victim lived at the residence or provided information about who lives at the home.
Detectives continue to conduct interviews and gather evidence at the scene. Additional details, including information about the circumstances leading up to the shooting, may be released as the investigation progresses.
