HOUSTON — A man was fatally shot Wednesday night at the Cerca Demi Apartments in northwest Houston, and a suspect is in custody following a search that led officers into a nearby bayou.
The shooting was reported shortly before 8 p.m. in the 3400 block of Blalock Road, near Campbell Road and Kempwood Drive. HPD Northwest Patrol officers were already in the area and arrived almost immediately, according to Houston Police Lieutenant Larry Crouson.
Officers found an adult male who had been shot at least once. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to information provided by HPD, witnesses told investigators the victim was sitting outside an apartment when he was approached by a suspect wearing a mask.

The suspect then fled the scene and entered a nearby bayou area north of the apartments.
HPD officers from Northwest Patrol, Crime Suppression and Patrol Support units coordinated a search of the area. A drone was also used to assist officers in locating the suspect.
Police eventually found the suspect hiding in brush in the bayou. He had suffered a broken ankle, according to police. The Houston Fire Department assisted the suspect before he was taken into custody.
Police have not established a motive for the shooting. Investigators have also not confirmed that the incident was an attempted robbery.
At this time, one adult male is deceased and one male suspect is in custody. HPD said there is no ongoing threat to the public related to the incident.
The victim’s identity and additional information about the suspect had not been publicly released at the time of this report.
