Suspect in Custody After Fatal Shooting and Police Ambush in Kingwood
A suspect is in custody following a fatal shooting and a SWAT standoff in Kingwood on Sunday afternoon.
At around 2:35 p.m., Houston police were called to 3702 Babbling Creek Drive for a domestic violence incident. The suspect, identified as James Paul Anderson, 37, allegedly shot his wife while she was on the phone with 911. Upon arrival, officers were immediately fired upon by Anderson but did not return fire.

After an hours-long standoff, Anderson surrendered around 9:45 p.m. Inside the home, police found his wife deceased from a gunshot wound. Two unharmed children were found hiding in a closet and have been placed in the care of relatives.
Preliminary investigations suggest Anderson may have been experiencing a mental health crisis. Multiple weapons, including a pistol and short barrel rifles, were recovered from the scene.
