Houston, TX — An officer-involved shooting occurred this evening at the 9600 block of Halkirk, leaving one man in critical condition. According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the incident unfolded when a deputy responded to a call for service. Upon arrival, the deputy discharged their weapon at an armed individual, striking him.
Sheriff Gonzalez reported that there were no injuries to the deputy involved in the incident. The wounded man was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Investigators are currently en route to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has established a media partner staging area at 16900 Bonnie Sean near Halkirk. A briefing is scheduled to take place around 9:30 PM, where more details are expected to be provided.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident escalated when the man came outside with a shotgun draped over his shoulder and ignored commands to put it down before going back inside. He then re-emerged with a semi-automatic rifle and pointed it at deputies. In response, a deputy discharged his weapon multiple times, striking the man once in the upper torso.
Deputies immediately handcuffed the man and administered first aid until EMS arrived. He was taken to the hospital, underwent surgery, and is now reported to be in stable condition. No deputies were injured in the incident.
The deputy who fired his weapon, a 37-year-old with five years of service, will be placed on administrative leave. The HCSO Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Unit, district attorney’s office, and internal affairs are all investigating the incident.
