A construction worker was injured in an incident at the Battelstein’s building, a recently designated historic landmark located on Main Street near Rusk Street in downtown Houston. The Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to the scene around 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

Initially reported as a high-rise incident, the call was escalated to a rescue operation after a supervisor informed first responders that workers might be trapped. Firefighters conducted a thorough search of the building’s 10 floors and located an injured worker in an external elevator.

According to HFD spokesperson Brent Taylor, the worker was descending in the elevator when a piece of concrete fell from the eighth floor, striking the elevator box. Despite the incident, the worker was found in stable condition and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
METRORail service in the area was temporarily affected as crews secured the site to ensure safety. No further injuries were reported.
