Harris County authorities confirmed Wednesday evening that a body was recovered after a vehicle was found submerged in a retention pond in the 18000 block of Windhaven Lake Drive in the Windhaven subdivision. The Cy-Fair Fire Department and Precinct 5 constables responded to the scene near Windhaven Terrace Trail and Windhaven Lake Drive, just east of Barker Cypress Road and close to Lone Star College – CyFair.
Authorities said neighbors reported that the vehicle, later identified as a Honda Civic, may have been in the pond since Thursday morning. Residents shared that they had been trying to get someone to investigate the scene and expressed concerns on a local Windhaven community page. Social media posts showed visible damage to a pier, disturbed ground near the shoreline, and wheels of the vehicle protruding from the water.
On arrival, deputies observed the vehicle partially submerged with its wheels sticking out of the water, as well as tire tracks leading into the pond and damage to a nearby pier. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team was called in to investigate and confirmed that one deceased male was inside the car. Dive teams also searched the surrounding area to ensure there were no additional victims.
The Vehicular Crimes Task Force has determined the incident to be an accident, noting no signs that another party was involved. However, authorities say the investigation will continue. Officials are also reviewing the timeline, as the first call regarding the vehicle reportedly came in around 2:30 p.m., possibly through a non-emergency line, prompting questions from neighbors about why the scene was not investigated sooner.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and the Windhaven community affected by this tragic accident. My heart goes out to them during this difficult time. Updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds and more details become available.
