Houston police and METRO Police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Friday night near the McGowen METRORail Station in Midtown Houston.
According to authorities, officers were called to the area around the McGowen METRORail platform, near approximately 4100 Fannin Street and the 2400 block of Main Street, after reports of gunfire. Houston Fire Department responders arrived and attempted life-saving measures on one victim, who was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
A second victim, identified as a security guard, was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Investigators believe the altercation began outside a nearby club along Main Street before escalating near the rail station.
Initial information released by authorities indicated the deceased victim may have been experiencing homelessness. However, a family member later reached out to clarify that the victim was not homeless, correcting earlier reports.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. While an image of a person alleged to be the shooter has circulated on social media, the Houston Police Department has not released or confirmed any suspect photo. Detectives are continuing to review surveillance footage from the METRORail platform and surrounding businesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
Both HPD and METRO Police responded to the scene and remained in the area for several hours while investigators worked. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims, and no arrests have been announced.
