Two women were killed and two others injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash involving a Tesla Cybertruck and a Buick sedan in west Houston, according to the Houston Police Department. The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Post Oak Place Drive and Briar Hollow Lane in the Galleria area.
Police say the Buick was carrying four women at the time of the collision. When officers and firefighters arrived, they found that two of the women had died at the scene. The other two women were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries and are expected to survive. The driver of the Cybertruck was not injured and remained at the scene cooperating with investigators.
Preliminary information indicates the Buick was traveling south on Briar Hollow Lane and may have failed to yield the right of way at the intersection. However, investigators also noted that the Cybertruck may have been traveling at a speed higher than legally allowed based on the extent of the damage observed at the scene.
The crash is now being investigated by HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division along with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Detectives will examine evidence from both vehicles, including possible video from the Tesla’s onboard camera system as well as data from each vehicle’s event data recorder, often referred to as a “black box,” which can provide information about speed, braking, and other driving activity before the collision.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the two women who died, and the investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
