Firefighter Injured During Apartment Fire at Falls of Point West in Southwest Houston

A firefighter was injured while battling a two-story apartment fire Thursday at the Falls of Point West Apartments in southwest Houston.

According to the Houston Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the complex at 5850 Parkfront Drive after receiving reports of an apartment fire. When the first units arrived on scene, they encountered heavy flames coming from both the first and second floors of the building.

Firefighters immediately initiated an aggressive offensive attack to bring the blaze under control while simultaneously conducting a primary search of the building. Initial reports suggested that residents could possibly be trapped inside the structure.

After searching the apartments, officials confirmed that no residents were found inside and no civilian injuries were reported.

During fire suppression operations, one firefighter was injured after falling from the second floor while working inside the building. The firefighter was removed from the structure on a stretcher and transported to a hospital for precautionary evaluation. Officials said the injuries were considered minor and the firefighter is expected to be okay.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by arson investigators with the department. Some residents reported hearing an explosion before the fire spread and speculated that a propane tank may have been involved. However, fire officials said they could not confirm whether a propane cylinder was involved at this time.

Investigators will continue working to determine the exact cause of the fire.
