New information is emerging about the events surrounding last week’s deadly incident at Garden Oaks Village Apartments on N. Shepherd Drive.
HPD has confirmed that the 20-year-old suspect and his 59-year-old father both suffered gunshot wounds and were found deceased inside the apartment after the fire. Investigators are continuing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the shootings and the fire.
The incident began around 4:20 p.m. Friday, when officers responded to a reported cutting and found the suspect’s 22-year-old brother suffering from a stab wound to his back. Police say the brothers had been involved in an argument that led to the stabbing. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
The suspect then barricaded himself inside an apartment with his father, who was disabled. Officers later heard what sounded like gunfire before seeing smoke coming from the apartment. A fire broke out, prompting HFD and SWAT to respond. Two other apartments were damaged, and the complex was evacuated while officers and firefighters secured the scene.
Investigators are also looking into a separate shooting that occurred at Garden Oaks Village several days before the deadly standoff. That earlier shooting has been linked to the same 20-year-old suspect.
The prior shooting is now part of the broader investigation into the events involving the suspect and his family.
HTX News will continue following the investigation and provide additional information as authorities release it.
