The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man killed Sunday near 660 John Albers Road as 34-year-old Victor Thomas Gonzalez, confirming he was the original 911 caller who reported being robbed at gunpoint.
According to HCSO Homicide Sgt. Sidney Miller, Gonzalez had arranged to meet someone to sell property when investigators believe he was robbed at gunpoint. The suspects then fled in a vehicle, and Gonzalez followed them while remaining on the phone with a dispatcher and providing their direction of travel. He later reported that he had been shot.
Gonzalez was ultimately located near John Albers Road and Bauman Road and was pronounced deceased. Investigators believe the motive appears to be robbery. HCSO says detectives are following multiple leads, but no arrests have been made.
Detectives are continuing to investigate what led to the robbery and shooting and are asking anyone with information to contact the HCSO Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
HCSO is also reminding the public not to pursue suspects following a robbery. As Sgt. Miller emphasized, “Property can be replaced. Your life can’t be replaced.”
