HOUSTON SHOOTING: MAN IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER GUNFIRE NEAR HIGHWAY 288

A man is fighting for his life following a shooting Thursday night along West Orem Drive near the South Freeway in southwest Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers were called to the area around 9:30 p.m. after gunfire was exchanged between two vehicles. A man inside one of the vehicles was struck in the upper body and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. His girlfriend, who was also inside the vehicle, was not injured.

Investigators say bullets also struck an occupied home a few blocks west of the shooting scene. Fortunately, no one inside the residence was hurt.

Police say the suspected shooter fled the area and struck another vehicle from behind before leaving that scene as well. The other driver was not injured and remained to speak with investigators.

Authorities are investigating whether road rage or a previous disagreement may have triggered the gunfire. The suspect remains at large as HPD’s Major Assaults Division continues its investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Houston Police Department.
