Katy, Texas – A newborn baby girl, abandoned near a walking trail in Harris County, is now recovering after being discovered by a couple on Saturday morning. Authorities are actively searching for the individual seen on camera leaving the infant.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic or white man with a slim build, fair complexion, and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and possibly gray pants. Surveillance footage shows him placing the baby on the ground and then fleeing the scene.
The baby, found unclothed and wrapped in a towel with her umbilical cord still attached, was discovered by a couple walking along the Plantation Lakes trail near Katy. They immediately called for help, and first responders arrived at the scene around 9 a.m. The infant was taken to Methodist Hospital in Katy, where she is reported to be in good condition.
Sgt. Juan Garcia of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse Unit praised the couple for their swift action, noting, “The baby was a newborn … still had, you know, fresh placenta on the baby, so it was freshly born this morning.”
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez expressed gratitude for the couple’s timely intervention, highlighting the importance of their actions in ensuring the baby’s safety. Investigators emphasized that while such abandonment cases are rare, there are safe options available, such as surrendering infants to fire stations or hospitals.
The discovery has sparked significant attention on social media, with users expressing relief at the baby’s safe recovery and calling for justice for the abandoned child.
The investigation continues as authorities seek to identify and locate the individual responsible for abandoning the newborn. The child is reported to be in good condition.
