Houston’s Response and Recovery Efforts Post-Hurricane Beryl

HOUSTON, TX – In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, Chief Nim Kidd met with Acting Governor Patrick and Houston Mayor John Whitmire at the City of Houston Emergency Center earlier today. The briefing focused on the city’s response and recovery efforts, including updates on Centerpoint Energy’s ongoing power restoration operations.

Medical Support Deployment:
To address acute medical needs, Texas is deploying 25 additional ambulances and a 250-bed medical shelter to support Houston’s EMS and hospital capacity. This move is critical to ensure that residents receive timely medical care during the recovery phase.

Damage Reporting via iSTAT:
Texans who sustained damage to homes and businesses are encouraged to report property damage using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) damage survey. The iSTAT surveys, available in both English and Spanish, can be accessed by visiting damage.tdem.texas.gov and clicking on “July 7th – Ongoing Hurricane/Tropical Storm Beryl.”

Details provided through the iSTAT damage survey help emergency management officials understand the extent of the damages. This information is vital for identifying immediate resource needs and determining whether the state qualifies for federal disaster assistance.

Important Notes on iSTAT Reporting:

  • Reporting damage through the iSTAT tool is voluntary and is not a substitute for reporting damage to your insurance company.
  • Filling out the iSTAT survey does not guarantee disaster relief assistance.
  • English and Spanish tutorial videos explaining how to fill out iSTAT surveys are available at damage.tdem.texas.gov.

Continued State Support:
Texas emergency response resources remain active and engaged in impacted communities. The following state emergency response resources have been readied and deployed to support ongoing operations:

  • Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM)
  • Texas Department of State Health Services
  • Texas Department of Public Safety
  • Texas Department of Transportation
  • Texas Health and Human Services Commission
  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality
  • American Red Cross
