HOUSTON, Texas — A routine Amazon delivery turned into a frightening encounter Sunday when a delivery driver came under gunfire at a home on Presley Street in north Houston.
The driver, who asked HTX News not to identify her because the suspected shooter remains at large, said she was delivering an Amazon package when she suddenly heard gunshots.
She told HTX News that seven shots were fired at her vehicle.
The driver was not injured, but she said the experience was extremely frightening and that she is grateful she made it out safely. When she turned around after hearing the gunfire, she discovered that her vehicle had been struck multiple times.
Houston Police Department Lieutenant Chris Kelly said officers received a shooting-in-progress call at approximately 11:44 a.m. Sunday.
Officers arrived minutes later and made contact with the delivery driver and another person outside the residence.
According to Lieutenant Kelly, the driver told officers she was in the process of placing an Amazon package when she heard gunshots. She turned around and saw that her vehicle had been struck.
The driver was also able to locate a suspect inside the property. According to HPD, the suspect briefly spoke with her before retreating back inside the home.
Officers established a perimeter around the residence while waiting for SWAT to arrive.
However, police later determined that the suspect had apparently broken through the perimeter and escaped. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
No injuries to the delivery driver have been reported.
Driver Warns Other Delivery Workers
After the incident, the driver reached out to HTX News because she wanted to share her experience and warn other people who make deliveries for a living.
She said the incident was scary and emphasized that delivery drivers can find themselves approaching unfamiliar properties and situations while simply trying to do their jobs.
Her message to other delivery drivers was simple: be careful, stay alert and stay safe.
The driver also asked HTX News to keep her identity private because the person responsible for the shooting has not been captured.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect is encouraged to contact the Houston Police Department.
HTX News will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.
