Man Dies After Altercation in Aldine Area; HCSO Investigating

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man has died following a physical altercation in the Aldine area, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division is investigating.

Deputies responded to the 15100 block of Willis Street near E. Hardy Road and Aldine Bender Road after receiving a report of an in-progress disturbance involving two men.

According to HCSO Sergeant Michael Ritchie, the two men knew each other and initially became involved in a verbal argument. The confrontation then escalated into a physical fight.

Investigators said the altercation continued for a period of time and was witnessed by other people at the location. At some point, one of the men struck the other, causing him to fall. The man became unresponsive after the fall and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

HCSO initially reported that the man had fallen and struck his head on the pavement. However, investigators said it remains unclear exactly what caused his death.

The victim is believed to be in his late 30s to early 40s, although his identity has not yet been officially confirmed. The other man involved is reportedly in his 20s. Investigators believe the two may be related, possibly cousins.

The other man remained at the scene following the altercation.

Investigation Underway

Homicide detectives have interviewed individuals who witnessed the incident and recovered surveillance footage from the business. Investigators believe the altercation was captured on the location’s DVR system.

An autopsy is expected to provide additional information about the man’s cause of death. Investigators are considering several possibilities, including injuries sustained during the fight, the impact from the fall, or a medical condition that may have contributed to his death.

Sergeant Ritchie said the case will be investigated as a homicide case and ultimately presented to a Harris County grand jury.

The grand jury will consider the circumstances surrounding the altercation and determine whether the man who struck the victim could face criminal responsibility, whether self-defense applies, or whether the incident could be considered mutual combat.

At this time, no final determination regarding criminal charges has been announced.

HTX News will continue to monitor the investigation and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
