HOUSTON, Texas — Two people are in critical condition following an officer-involved shooting Sunday morning at Pineforest Park Apartments in northwest Houston, according to preliminary information released by the Houston Police Department.
Houston police Assistant Chief said officers were dispatched at approximately 11:13 a.m. to 5959 Pinemont Drive after receiving a report of a shooting in progress.
The initial information provided to responding officers was that a Black female was shooting at a male. While officers were still responding, police received an update indicating the woman had allegedly returned to the male and shot him again.
Officers arrived within minutes and located the female suspect outside the apartment complex, walking near the sidewalk, Bashir said.
Police said officers immediately began giving the woman verbal commands, but she refused to comply.
During the encounter, three officers discharged their weapons multiple times. According to HPD, the officers believed they were in fear for their safety.
After the shooting, officers approached the woman to provide medical assistance. Police said they located two pistols in her possession.
Both the female suspect and the male victim were transported to a local hospital and are currently in critical condition, according to HPD.
No other injuries have been reported.
